insertion rate. PICC Trained Nursing personnel

Traditionally, the role of nurses in peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC) line placement has been extremely limited. It has been a long-standing practice for PICC insertion to only be performed by board-certified radiologists and assistants who have been trained in vascular interventional procedures. Here at MACRUSS VA, our PICC Line 101 Course is available to train Registered Nurses PICC Line insertion skills.

Our PICC program is the most comprehensive training program of its kind. This evidence-based program is taught by currently practicing PICC nurses, and offers the opportunity for hands-on PICC precepting.

Despite growing evidence that "nurses can add efficiency to an overwhelmed interventional radiology department, provide competent PICC line placement, reduce costs and procedure delays for the patient,"* nurses usually have not been fully exposed to training that would enable them to properly perform this oftentimes essential procedure.

Enroll in our training courses so that we can improve your intravenous insertion skills. Our PICC Line course not only teaches you how to properly insert a PICC line, but also care and management of the line.

Bedside PICC Program enhances patient safety

PICC lines are a type of intravenous access meant for long-term use. Each PICC line is a long, thin tube that is inserted by interventional radiology specialists through a vein in the upper arm. The tip of the tube is advanced through the vein until it ends in a large blood vessel near the heart. The lines are typically inserted using ultrasound and fluoroscopy.

Sleeve that keeps PICC lines in place helps deter infection

After seeing several friends and family members go through chemotherapy – complete with tube socks on their arms – University of Virginia alumnus Chaitenya Razdan thought there had to be a better way.An antimicrobial PICC line cover – a soft, breathable sleeve that keeps the PICC line in place – helps deter infection and includes a patented mesh window where patients, nurses and doctors can easily check on the site.

This PICC Line Course was exactly what I needed to be successful. It also improved my IV insertion skills and chest x-ray interpretation.
